Devices to mains wiring: a definite necessity

In these last ten years, the growing spreading of electronic devices (from the multi-channel amplification to the personal computers and videorecording)has emphasized the importance of a correct main supply wiring. This fact is daily verifiable: many ofthe houses (and work environments too) have a great number of devices which need a main supply connection to work. These connections oblige the users to utilize "stacks" of multiple outiets that, besides an unaesthetic chaos may be dangerous for the devices and, above ali, far the users themselves. In 1978, CABRE aiready individuated this problem and answered to this by developing the AF-36, a power line distributor that allowed to feed two separate groups of devices by operating on a couple of switches. The success was immediate and significant: sales figures showed that the product was appreciated by people that, far different reasons, were obliged to connect a lot of plugs to the few available outiets, besides the HI-FI lovers for whom the product was designed. Nowadays, this problem is stili very important and needs more specialized and sharp solutions. Olir present answer is'the CABRE DR-220: it's a produci that intends to fullfill these needs in the most simple and economical possible way.

CABRE DR-220: a sharp answer

Reliable and innovative from project to production, the ENHANCED MAIN SUPPLY DISTRIBUTOR DR-220 is structured with two indipendent and complementary parts:

  • A LOGIC CONTROL SECTION which, using a customized G.A.L. (Generic Array Logic), manages: driving of power relais, through the front pushbuttons; monitoring of the main supply voltage visualized on the displays. The use of a "custom made" component allows functions such as: display flash-signalling a voltage value outside the ranges normally set by the electric company; enabling or disabling the self restart of the device after a temporary black-out.
  • A DOUBLE POWER SECTION where the driving of the outputrelais is controlied by a couple ofIC's that command the supply offhe connected appliances in an area ofthe sinewawe centered around zero Volt. In fact, the random switching of devices couid occur at a moment on which the instant value of the mains voltage is next to the maximum: in this critical situation devices will receive a hundreds of volts peak that could be fatal for them.

In order to protect the connected appliances, the DR-220 is provided with a mains filter that eliminates noise, and with an adequate number ofsuppressors that cutfhe overvoltage peaks, both in input and in output, stopping them from reaching the devices. It's also possible to expand the system up to a configuration with 8 secondary units controlied by the same central DR-220: in this way it's possible to rise the number of devices connected to the same "on" command.
